Hi guys,

it there any possibility to prevent users to enter values on C-Elements in TM1 Web? Is there any parameter that can be set in webconfig?

What happens now is, that when user enters values (directly, without using right mouse click -> data spreading) on c-elements new value is just spread proportionally on the elements in the hierarchy. Also when zero is entered, it will be populated to the n-elements. Data is directly written to the database, so "review" button is not available and no coming back...

System is TM1 9.5.1 with HF13 64bit.

Hi,

It was a tough day at work for me today, so maybe I'm overlooking something here. I thought this is just not possible... (except for String cells at C-level, but these are not spread obviously).

You should be able use restrict 'input' to C level cells using element security.
Having said that, I'm rather concerned that TM1 is using Relative Proportional Spread without asking or giving you the options.

This new feature is documented (although maybe not given the prominence it deserves). It is there in order for TM1 Contributor (and TM1 Web) to match functionality from EP Contributor, there are also new spreading sort-cuts for Contributor.

Fight new features with new features: Provided you are in personal workspace mode you always have the option not to commit and provided transaction logging is on you can also always undo the data entry.

It is a departure from previous spreading functionality (as is the "are you sure?" prompt on entering "c" which is a good addition) and means behaviour is now inconsistent between web and Excel.  A switch in web.config to have the "classic" behaviour would be nice but I don't think it exists unfortunately.

But when "C" is a valid data value which the user wants to enter and TM1 thinks that user is trying to spread/clear values. In that case its painful and one has to go through workarounds.

Agreed. The way I heard it from IBMers pre-9.5, Clear was going to be converted to a multi-key solution. (Hello IBM, the frappin' [Alt] key is there for a reason.) I can only assume that someone far more brilliant in the GUI design department decided on a confirmation dialog instead. I agree with Lotsa that it's an improvement over the original design which was like having a trigger on a thermonuclear bomb without a safety device, but it still leaves the problem that Rizwan referred to... in addition to which confirmation dialogs can get real old, real fast, if you're repeatedly performing an action.

(I have a rather large Atlantic Salmon in the freezer just waiting to be hurled at the head of the genius at Micro$loth who came up with the "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable" dialog without providing a checkbox which reads "Well duh, Thank you for telling me but I've been doing this for a while now and don't need to hear the obvious. Shut up and never, ever, bother me with this dialog ever again".)

If the web sheet was created in Excel you can apply protection to the C level cells and users won't be able to enter. I use this all the time for input templates.

Hi guys,

thanks a lot!

It is unfortunately a view - so the only way would be to set Element Security. But i think the users will have to live with undo button.
